Factors to be considered before choosing dog beds for your canines

Pets form an important part of your family and every single measure is taken to keep it happy and comfortable. If you own a dog, you might be aware that many dogs sleep an average of fourteen hours in a day and hence it is essential to choose a bed for them in which they can make themselves comfortable and enjoy a healthy sleep. Some people even prefer to make their dogs sleep on their beds. However this is a quite unhygienic practice and lead to disturbance in sleep. Therefore, the very best place for the dog to relax is its own bed and probably a room of your choice. Dog beds are available in different sizes and a great variety. Choosing a bed that suits your dog habits is very necessary.

Before purchasing a dog bed, there are certain factors to be considered which can help you in buying the most suitable bed for your dog. Some of them are:

·         Size is important – purchasing large beds for your dog can make them feel comfortable as it gives them some space to stretch out and move around. Also if you have a dog who is still in the growing stage, then purchasing a large bed can again be profitable and a sensible decision. Purchasing huge beds for your dogs can make you watch the various poses and positions that it strikes when asleep.

·         Measure your dog – if you are unsure about the exact dimensions of a dog bed, then you can physical measure the size of the dog to determine which size beds will be useful for your dog. Once the measurement part is over, it is advisable to add a few more centimeters or inches to the measured size to give a little surplus room for movement. These bed sizes can also depend upon the sleeping nature of the dog and further how much extra space is required for rolling around whilst sleep.

·         Appetite for destruction – depending upon the dog habits of chewing and gnawing, dog bed can be purchased which are specifically targeted at dogs that like to chew and gnaw their own beds. However, no dog bed is indestructible but a destructive kind of dog would not be suited for a mattress type bed with a soft filling. Choosing a hard molded plastic bed would be a more appropriate choice in such cases.

Every dog owner is guilty of giving their pets the occasional treat and showering them with displays of affection as it is hard not to be swayed by emotion when it concerns your pet. However, when it comes on choosing a bed for your dog you should consider their functions over form.
